Kerala Chief Minister submits resignation

Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan today submitted his resignation to Governor R S Gavai, accepting the verdict of the assembly polls which gave a slender majority of 72 seats to UDF in the 140-member house.
He reached the Raj Bhavan by forenoon and handed over the resignation.

The ruling Marxist-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) got 68 seats in the elections.

Later, Mr Achuthanandan told newspersons that the Governor accepted his resignation and asked him to continue as a care- taker Chief Minister till a new government assumes office.
