അടുത്തിടെ 'സെന്‍സ്ലെസ് കോമഡി എന്റര്‍ടെയ്നര്‍' ഗണത്തില്‍ നിരവധി ചിത്രങ്ങള്‍ വിജയം നേടിയതിന്റെ ബലത്തിലാകാം സംവിധായകന്‍ ദീപു ഈ ചിത്രം പരീക്ഷിച്ചത്. അദ്ദേഹം തന്നെ യാതൊരു യുക്തിയും പുതുമയും ഇല്ലാത്ത 'ക്രേസി ഗോപാലന്‍' പോലൊരു ചിത്രം മുമ്പ് വിജയിപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുമുണ്ട്. എന്നാല്‍ സ്ഥിരം സ്ലാപ്സ്റ്റിക് കോമഡി വീണ്ടും വീണ്ടും സ്ക്രീനിലെത്തിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ മേമ്പൊടിക്ക് എന്തെങ്കിലും പുതുമ വന്നിരുന്നെങ്കില്‍ നന്നായേനേ. ചിത്രത്തിനു പറയാന്‍ പ്രത്യേകിച്ചൊരു കഥയില്ല, രണ്ടാം പകുതിയിലെ തിരക്കഥയിലെ കെട്ടുറപ്പില്ലായ്മ, ക്ലൈമാക്സിലെ ബലഹീനത എന്നിവയാണ് ദീപുവിന്റേതായി ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടാവുന്ന പോരായ്മകള്‍. 


അഭിനേതാക്കളില്‍ പൃഥ്വിരാജ് ഡോണ്‍ വേഷത്തില്‍ മികച്ചു നിന്നു. റോഷന്‍ വര്‍മയായി നാട്ടിലെത്തിയ ശേഷം അല്‍പം ഒതുങ്ങിയ പ്രകടനമായിരുന്നു. പൃഥ്വിക്ക് സംവിധായകന്‍ നിയന്ത്രിതമായേ നര്‍മരംഗങ്ങള്‍ നല്‍കിയിട്ടുള്ളൂ. ഹാസ്യവിഭാഗം, നല്ലതും വളിപ്പും, നയിക്കുന്നത് സുരാജ് വെഞ്ഞാറമൂടാണ്. ചിലവ തീയറ്ററുകളില്‍ നന്നായി ചിരിയുയര്‍ത്തുന്നുണ്ട്. ആദ്യാവസാനം സുരാജിന്റെ വശ്യവചസാണ് നര്‍മരംഗങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് ജീവന്‍ പകരുന്നത്. ജഗതി ശ്രീകുമാര്‍, സലീംകുമാര്‍, ഇന്ദ്രന്‍സ്, കൊച്ചുപ്രേമന്‍, ജഗദീഷ്, മഞ്ജു പിള്ള തുടങ്ങി വന്‍ ഹാസ്യതാരനിരയുണ്ടെങ്കിലും ഇവര്‍ക്കാര്‍ക്കും കാര്യമായി ചെയ്യാനില്ല. സലീംകുമാര്‍ സ്കോര്‍ ചെയ്യുന്ന ഏക രംഗം മഹാഭാരത കഥ സ്വന്തം കുടുംബ കഥയായി അവതരിപ്പിക്കുമ്പോഴാണ്. 


നായിക അഖിലയുടേതും വില്ലന്‍ സുമന്റേതും അഭിനയപ്രാധാന്യ വേഷമൊന്നുമല്ല. തലൈവാസല്‍ വിജയ് മോശമാക്കിയില്ല. ഷക്കീലയുടേയും ഭീമന്‍ രഘുവിന്റെയും രംഗങ്ങള്‍ പടത്തിന് പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് ഗുണമൊന്നും നല്‍കില്ല. 


ഷാംദത്തിന്റെ ക്യാമറ കോലാലംപൂരിന്റെ മികച്ച ദൃശ്യങ്ങള്‍ നല്‍കി. ദീപക് ദേവിന്റെ ഗാനങ്ങള്‍ നിരാശപ്പെടുത്തി. നന്നായത് 'ഒരു മധുരക്കിനാവിന്‍' റീമിക്സ് മാത്രമാണ്. നായകനെ അവതരിപ്പിക്കുമ്പോഴുള്ള പശ്ചാത്തല സംഗീതം അദ്ദേഹം ഡോണില്‍ നിന്നും മമ്മൂട്ടിയുടെ രൌദ്രത്തില്‍ നിന്നും കണ്ണുമടച്ച് പകര്‍ത്തിവെച്ചിരിക്കുകയാണ്. അതുകൊണ്ടുതന്നെ അത് നന്നായിട്ടുണ്ട്. 


കാര്യമായി കാമ്പ് അവകാശപ്പെടാനില്ലാതെ രണ്ടര മണിക്കൂര്‍ യുക്തിരഹിത കോമഡി എന്റര്‍ടെയ്നറാണ് സംവിധായകന്‍ ഉദ്ദേശിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതെന്നതിനാല്‍ ചിത്രത്തിന്റെ ഗുണദോഷങ്ങള്‍ ചര്‍ച്ച ചെയ്യുന്നതില്‍ പ്രസക്തിയില്ല. കാര്യസ്ഥനും പോക്കിരിരാജയും ചൈനാടൌണും വരെ ഇഷ്ടപ്പെടാന്‍ മലയാളിയുടെ പ്രബുദ്ധ മനസു തയാറാകുന്നുണ്ടെങ്കില്‍ അതിനേക്കാള്‍ ഭേദമായ 'തേജാഭായി'ക്കും വിജയപ്രതീക്ഷ പുലര്‍ത്താം. 

WikiLeaks intensifies CPM feud

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Express revelations on the WikiLeaks cables regarding the closed-door meeting between US officials and the CPM leaders have snowballed into a major controversy and the factional war in the CPM is set to hot up over it.

Indications on this score came after the official channel of the CPM itself revealed on Tuesday that the then Chief Minister V S Achuthanadan had also met the US diplomat on August 29-30, 2008.

As per the WikiLeaks cables accessed by Express, CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan and then ministers T M Thomas Isaac and M A Baby, during their meeting with US officials on August 11-12, 2008, had sought American private investments in the state.

The channel stance was based on a separate diplomatic cable sent from the US Consulate on September 5, 2008 to the US State Department, released by WikiLeaks (168629, Unclassified) on the August 29 official meeting with US diplomat Andrew Simkin.

It says that Chief Minister Achuthanandan had also focused on the CPM’s interest in attracting US investment to Kerala.

“He had invited a large crowd of reporters and photographers to his office at the beginning of the meeting, and invited them again after the conversation (with Simkin).

In that closing press opportunity, he stressed that the CPM wanted to promote foreign investment in the three sectors he had identified,” says the communication.

Further, “in early August, Vijayan took the unprecedented step of openly seeking our assistance in drawing U S investment to Kerala.

To have Achuthanandan, who has long opposed such a move, affirm this policy shift is a clear sign that Kerala is moving in a new direction,” the cable says.

It goes on to say that these comments are significant because they demonstrate that the orthodox Communist Chief Minister is coming around to the need to welcome foreign direct investment in the state.

“Since coming to office in 2006, the Chief Minister has fought a losing battle against the Kerala CPM’s more investment- friendly faction, which is led by CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan,’’ it says.

The cable says during his trip Simkin also met Governor R S Gavai, state Chief Secretary, Finance Minister Thomas Isaac, Director General of Police and members from the Opposition Congress party.

Big B to portray Anna Hazare in Prakash Jha's Satyagraha

The film is scheduled to go on floors in January will address a peaceful mass protest against corruption, like the one currently going on in India, the Anna Hazare movement. Prakash Jha informs that he is currently working on the script of Satyagraha. He further reveals that the cast of the film has not yet been finalised, however Amitabh Bachchan will definitely be a part of the film. Mr. Bachchan, apparently will play the role of a peaceful crusader, like Hazare or Gandhi, who alone will lead the protest against corruption. Jha however, says that there will be huge fundamental difference between the film and real life. "The upsurge of mass protest against corruption that Anna Hazare has generated is indeed unprecedented and remarkable. However, what bothers me is that only one opinion is prevailing in this movement towards eradicating corruption, and that could damage the whole noble purpose of the protest. It is the Lok Pal bill the way Anna Hazare saab wills it to be, or not at all. There has to be a less hardline approach to a matter as deep-rooted as corruption,” views Praksha Jha.

The director further states that the fight against corruption should be more focused and specific in its motivation. “For instance, why not start by simply campaigning against anyone giving or taking a bribe?" says Jha. Amitabh's character in Satyagraha will have plenty of element of Hazare. Prakash informs that the protagonist in his film will film corruption at the state level, unlike Hazare at the national level.

"Isn't that the way my films and protagonists always are? I think it's important for any movement to be rooted to a specific population. It's the only way it can be effective," says Jha

India finds proof of Pakistan training Somali pirates

AHMEDABAD: It is now official: Somali sea pirates are being trained in Pakistan to carry out aproxy war against India. Though Indian security agencies had been hinting at a Pakistani link to Somali sea pirates since long, material evidence to support this assertion has only been recently recovered.

The evidence was obtained from nine foreign nationals caught from a hijacked Iranian vessel - MV Nafis-1, by the Indian Navy off Mumbai on August 14.

The vessel was brought to Porbandar on August 15 and those arrested - five Yemenis, two Tanzanians, one Kenyan and one Somali national - were handed over to Porbandar police.

Gujarat customs officials had seized a large quantity of food items from the vessel and also found rice packets and juice pouches bearing names of Pakistani companies. Gujarat customs officials also recovered two AK-47s, a pistol and a cache of foreign currency including $86,000 and 1,500 Saudi Riyal.

Officials seized bags full of tea leaves, which customs officials believe, were chewed by the pirates to stay awake.

"The guns have no label but the food items are packed and manufactured in Pakistan. Smugglers are not
generally found carrying such a large amount of foreign currency," said a senior customs official.

The fact that the foreigners were travelling in a low-speed merchant vessel unlike Somalian pirates who use high-speed boats, gave the arrested a benefit of doubt, said customs officials.

"We are taking help of foreign embassies to know if those arrested have a criminal record. We have three Arabic translators who are helping us. The arrested have confessed that they are smugglers and operate in Arabic countries, and were lost in waters before they were intercepted by Indian forces," said Dipen Bhadran, Porbandar superintendant of police.

Anna Hazare to end fast tomorrow

New Delhi, Saturday, August 27, 2011: Anna Hazare will break his fast at 10 am tomorrow, according to his close associate Kiran Bedi.

Bedi tweeted that the 74-year-old activist does not break his fast after sunset.

“Anna is known to have never broken his fast after sunset. Recall, he did so even in April fast. This is his decision again. He decides,” she tweeted.

Later, Bedi told media he will break the fast at 10 am tomorrow. If he breaks his fast tomorrow at 10 am, he will complete 288 hours of his hunger strike which began on August 16.

The Lok Sabha has adopted, unanimously, a resolution on the three demands made by Anna Hazare for inclusion in the Lokpal Bill.

The resolution read: “This house agrees in principle on the following issues for a strong and effective Lokpal.

A) Citizen charter
B) Lower bureaucracy to be under Lokpal through an appropriate mechanism
C) Establishment of Lokayukts in the states

And further resolves to forward the proceedings of the House to the department-related standing committee for its perusal while finalising its report.”

'Don 2: The Chase Continues' is the sequel to the highly successful film 'Don: The Chase Begins'. The sequel, also starring Shah Rukh Khan and Priynka Chopra was scheduled to have a normal release but director Farhan Akhtar apparently had a change of mind and decided to convert the film to 3D format. The film will hit the theatres on 23 December.

Ra. One

Shah Rukh Khan's ambitious project will also be in 3D format. The film also stars Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal apart from SRK himself. The film has been going through some extensive post-production work which also includes the release of Ra. One - The Game. The movie releases on October 26 and would probably cash in on the Diwali spirit.

Joker

Joker is not only scheduled to be released in 3D but is the first Bollywood film that has been completely shot using 3D cameras. The film stars Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha, Shreyas Talpade and Minisha Lamba in lead roles. According to the director of the film, Shirish Kunder, "It is an underdog story about how individuals make it big in life and in the process, get help from aliens from a fictional planet". The film is slated to release in the month of December.

Dangerous Ishq

'Dangerous Ishq', directed by Vikram Bhatt, is the chosen project for comeback queen Karisma Kapoor. In the movie, Karisma's will play five different roles spanning five generations one of them being of a supermodel. The movie is largely being awaited due to the return of Karisma Kapoor to the silver screen after 8 years. The film was being planned to release in November.

Raaz 3

Vikram Bhatt returns with yet another 3D film which is none other than 'Raaz' franchise. 'Raaz 3' marks the return of Bipasha Basu and Vikram Bhatt to the franchise after they both worked in 'Raaz'. 'Raaz 2' was directed by Mohit Suri and starred Kangana Ranaut, Emraan Hashmi and Adhyayan Suman in lead roles. The third installment stars Bipasha Basu, Emraan Hashmi andJacqueline Fernandez.

Sher Khan

Sher Khan is an action-adventure film being produced and directed by Sohail Khan and will starSalman Khan. This film will mark the fifth collaboration between the Khan Brothers. Sohail Khan is reportedly keen on having Nargis Fakhri in the film otherwise he would cast a newcomer if that doesn't materialize.

മലയാളത്തില്‍ നയന്‍താരയും തമിഴില്‍ അസിനും ചെയ്ത നായികാവേഷം ഹിന്ദിയില്‍ കരീനാ കപൂറാണ് ചെയ്യുന്നത്. മിത്രാ കുര്യന്‍ തമിഴിലും മലയാളത്തിലും കൈകാര്യം ചെയ്ത വേഷം ചെയ്യുന്നത് ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് മോഡലായ ഹേസല്‍ ക്രൌണിയാണ്.


ചിത്രത്തിന് സംഗീതമൊരുക്കുന്നത് ഹിമേഷ് രേഷമിയയും പ്രീതം ചക്രവര്‍ത്തിയുമാണ്. ഗാനങ്ങള്‍ ഇതിനകം ഹിറ്റാണ്. ഒരു ഗാനത്തില്‍ സല്‍മാനൊപ്പം ഐറ്റം ഡാന്‍സുമായി കത്രീനാ കൈഫും എത്തുന്നുണ്ട്.

'ബോഡിഗാര്‍ഡ്' ഇനി തെലുങ്കിലും കന്നഡയിലും വരുന്നുണ്ട്. തെലുങ്കില്‍ വെങ്കിടേഷും കന്നഡയില്‍ ജഗ്ഗേഷും നായകനാകും. ഈ ചിത്രങ്ങളൊരുക്കാന്‍ സിദ്ദിഖിനെത്തന്നെ ക്ഷണിച്ചെങ്കിലും മുന്നു തവണ സംവിധാനം ചെയ്ത ചിത്രം വീണ്ടും ചെയ്യാന്‍ അദ്ദേഹം താല്‍പര്യം പ്രകടിപ്പിച്ചില്ല.

പെരുന്നാള്‍, ഓണം റിലീസുകള്‍ ഒരുങ്ങി

കാര്യമായ റിലീസുകളില്ലാതിരുന്ന ഒരു മാസത്തിന് വിട പറഞ്ഞ് പ്രതീക്ഷയുണര്‍ത്തുന്ന നിരവധി ചിത്രങ്ങളുടെ റിലീസിന് കേരളത്തിലെ തീയറ്ററുകള്‍ ഒരുങ്ങി. 


റമദാന്‍ മാസം അവസാനിക്കുന്നതോടെ പെരുന്നാള്‍ റിലീസായും ഒരാഴ്ച കൂടി കഴിഞ്ഞാല്‍ ഓണം റിലീസുകളായും വമ്പന്‍ സദ്യതന്നെ തയാറായിട്ടുണ്ട്.


ആദ്യ റിലീസിന് തയാറായിരുന്നത് പൃഥ്വിരാജിനെ നായകനാക്കി ദീപു കരുണാകരന്‍ സംവിധാനം ചെയ്ത 'തേജാഭായി ആന്റ് ഫാമിലി' ആണ്. ആഗസ്ററ് 26ന് ചിത്രമെത്തുമെന്ന് ആദ്യം അറിയിച്ചിരുന്നെങ്കിലും ഇപ്പോള്‍ 30ലേക്ക് റിലീസ് മാറ്റിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. 70ലേറെ കേന്ദ്രങ്ങളില്‍ തേജാഭായി റിലീസ് ചെയ്യും. അഖിലയാണ് നായിക.

പ്രേക്ഷകരുടെ എക്കാലത്തെയും പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട ത്രീ ഡി ചിത്രമായ നവോദയയുടെ 'മൈഡിയര്‍ കുട്ടിച്ചാത്തനും' 31ന് വരുന്നുണ്ട്. ഇത്തവണ ഡിജിറ്റല്‍ ത്രി ഡി സംവിധാനത്തില്‍ കേരളത്തിലെ പ്രമുഖ കേന്ദ്രങ്ങളില്‍ കുട്ടിച്ചാത്തന്‍ റിലീസ് ചെയ്യും. പ്രകാശ് രാജ്, ഊര്‍മിള, സന്താനം തുടങ്ങിയവര്‍ അഭിനയിച്ച പുതിയ രംഗങ്ങളും ചിത്രത്തിന്റെ പ്രത്യേകതയാണ്. 


ഓണത്തോടനുബന്ധിച്ച് സെപ്റ്റംബര്‍ 8ന് ജയറാം നായകനായ 'ഉലകം ചുറ്റും വാലിബന്‍' പ്രദര്‍ശനത്തിനെത്തും. രാജ് ബാബു സംവിധാനം ചെയ്യുന്ന ചിത്രത്തില്‍ ബിജു മേനോന്‍, വന്ദനാ മേനോന്‍, മിത്രാ കുര്യന്‍, സുരാജ്, സലിം കുമാര്‍ തുടങ്ങിയവര്‍ അഭിനയിക്കുന്നു.


സെപ്റ്റംബര്‍ 9ന് കുഞ്ചാക്കോ ബോബന്‍ നായകനാകുന്ന 'ഡോക്ടര്‍ ലൌ' പ്രദര്‍ശനത്തിനെത്തും. ദിവ്യ ഉണ്ണിയുടെ സഹോദരി വിദ്യ ഉണ്ണി, അനന്യ,ഹേമന്ത്, ഭഗത് മാനുവല്‍, രജിത് മേനോന്‍, നിമിഷ തുടങ്ങിയവര്‍ അഭിനയിക്കുന്നു. ജിതിന്‍ ആര്‍ട്സ് മാക്സ് ലാബ് വഴി ചിത്രം റിലീസ് ചെയ്യും.

കൂടാതെ അജിത് നായകനായ 'മങ്കാത'യും തമിഴില്‍ നിന്ന് ഈ സീസണില്‍ തീയറ്ററുകളില്‍ എത്തും. വെങ്കട് പ്രഭുവാണ് സംവിധാനം.
