Kolkata: It’s her moment and it’s colossal. But the usually fiery Mamata, post Trinamool’s resounding victory against the well-entrenched Left Front, appeared moved by the importance of her historic march to the Writers’ Building.Emerging out of her modest home, in Kalighat, attired in a crumpled cotton saree, Mamata said, “This is a complete victory of democracy, victory of Maa Matti Manush (mother, earth, people)... victory of exploited people, ordinary people, tribals... everybody supported us. This is a historic verdict. After 34 years, Bengal has got new freedom."
Amid thousands of ecstatic supporters who swarmed the Harish Chatterjee Street, Mamata said, "While celebrating we should also remember those martyrs who have given their life in last three decades. With the blessings of the people of Bengal, we will take the state forward." |

And making her priorities clear, she also hit out at the Left Front by stressing: “There’s no place for autocracy; atrocities will be stopped across the state.”
The maverick leader also took the opportunity to thank Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who had congratulated her on phone for her resounding victory.
Banerjee also appealed to people to maintain peace and not "fall prey to instigation".
Trinamool Congress-Congress combine is all set to oust the Left Front which has ruled Bengal since 1977.
As per reports, she will probably take oath as the next Chief Minister of West Bengal on May 18. The incumbent Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee is expected to announce his resignation today itself.
