Kerala Assembly session from June 24

THIRUVANATHAPURAM: The first budget session of the Assembly after the UDF Government assumed office will begin on June 24,� Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said here on Wednesday.
Briefing mediapersons about the Cabinet decisions,�� the Chief Minister said that the session in which the budget and vote-on-account would be presented, would continue till July 20.
“The government has decided to recommend to the Governor for commencing the budget session from June 24.�� The revised budget will be presented in the session”, he said.
Chandy said the election of Deputy Speaker would not be held on June 1 and 2 as was announced earlier.�� “On these dates, only the Speaker will be elected.� It is the Speaker who would decide the date of election of the� Deputy Speaker”, he said.
The Cabinet also decided to increase the aid given for unwed tribal mothers in Wayanad. “The issue was discussed in the high-level meeting of the police officers on Monday.� The number of such unmarried mothers has been pegged at 910.� The Police Department’s figure is much higher.
“The previous government had fixed a pension of� Rs 300 for these women.� The new government has decided to raise it to Rs 1,000 and each of them will be given one acre of land.� In addition, funds will be allotted from the budget of the ST Department for building houses for them,”� he said.
�He added that strong legal measures would be taken against those who exploit such vulnerable women.
The Cabinet decided to appoint Rajiv Sadanandan as the new Secretary of the Health Department.� Kudumbhasree Mission director Sarada Muraleedharan and Excise Commissioner Anil Xavier have been given additional charge as secretaries of� Social Welfare Department and Labour Department respectively.
