Coming soon: ‘Rajavinte Makan’ remake!

Mohanlal to remake Rajavinte Makan?
Rajavinte Makan', the cult film that made Mohanlal a household name and a superstar in Malayalam, is all set to be remade.
Apparently, remaking yesteryear super hits is a popular trend among Malayalam film makers these days. After the recent success of Neelathamara, a remake of the 1979 Malayalam classic with the same title, Rajavinte Makan (1986) could be the next to be remade!
According to sources, director Thampi Kannanthanam and script writer Dennis Joseph, makers of the original movie, had a discussion last Friday with Mohanlal's favourite producer Antony Perumbavoor and the team has reportedly decided for a remake.
In all probability, the pooja will be held on July 16. To be produced under the banner of Ashirwad Films, the remake will have Suresh Gopi reprising his role of the original version.
An adaptation of Rage of Angels (1983) by Sidney Sheldon, Rajavinte Makan revolves around Vincent Gomas and a group of underworld goons in Kerala. He is cheated by a politician (Ratheesh) and seeks revenge.

The 1986 film, written by Dennis Joseph and directed by Thampi Kannanthanam, would be remade with the same cast and crew, it is learnt. The pooja of the remake is scheduled to take place on July 16.

Though it was speculated that a sequel to the blockbuster was on anvil, the filmmakers and Mohanlal have settled for a remake, says our source. The racy gangster film with razor sharp dialogues had Mohanlal at his best; he was ably supported by a cast including Ratheesh, Suresh Gopi, Ambika and Adoor Bhasi.

Some of the dialogues by Vincent Gomas (a don, played by Mohanlal) in the film such as "Manassil Kuttabodham Thonnikkazhinjaal Cheyyunnathellam Yaanthrikamaayirikkum," "My Phone Number is Double Two Double Five," and "Orikkal Raaju mon ennodu chodichu. Uncle nte Achante Perenthanennu. Njaan paranju. My father is a king. I am the prince. Raajaavinte Makan" are very popular even now.

Salman Khan worth Rs 50 crore now!

Salman Khan, 45, who took a fee cut for Ready during recession has hiked his price, post his super successful run at the box office. The actor who was charging Rs 40 crore for his films, will now take back home a whopping Rs 50 crore.

Two filmmakers have confirmed to film expert Subhash K Jha that Salman has not only hiked his price, but is also 'choosing' his directors.

"Salman is not only quoting a fee close to Rs 50 crore, he is also 'recommending' (read: appointing) directors for these films. Like, for the T Series project Salman has put forward the names of two directors and has asked producer Bhushan Kumar to choose from one of them. Furthermore, he insisted on Sonakshi Sinha for Kick and now he's recommending Zarine Khan to his prospective producers," a source told film expert Subhash K Jha.

Filmmaker Bhushan Kumar told Jha that Salman's price has been re-structured for his next. "When Salmanbhai did Ready the film industry was facing a huge financial crunch. But he agreed to cut down his price from Rs 40 crore to Rs 17 crore. This was the only way we could have made Ready at that time. Now the market has changed for the entire film industry. So, we are currently re-negotiating with him for our next film."

Rakhi Sawant wants to marry Baba Ramdev

"He's my new dream man," she confesses

Rakhi Sawant used to be controversy's favourite child but things had been quiet with the item girl-turned-reality TV star for a while. Not anymore! Rakhi has come up with a statement that's got everyone talking - she says that she wants to marry yoga expert Baba Ramdev.

Rakhi said that she thinks of Baba Ramdev as 'Swami' Ramdev, and confessed that she likes him a lot. She went on to add that while Rahul Gandhi was her dream man earlier she has now changed her choice to Baba Ramdev.

“Jab bhi main unhe dekhti hun mujhe kuchh ho jaata hai. Unki aankhein mujhe sabse zyaada attract karti hai. (Whenever I see him something happens to me. His eyes attract me the most) I want to marry him” she said in Delhi while promoting her TV show 'Gajab Desh Ki Ajab Kahaaniyaan' on Imagine TV.

Rakhi added that she admired Baba Ramdev's efforts to sort out the black money issue. She also said that she planned to invite him to her show and then propose to him.

Of course knowing Rakhi's penchant for publicity, the timing of this 'love confession' coincides with the launch of her new show.

Rakhi had earlier been part of Imagine TV's reality show 'Rakhi Ka Swayamvar', where she selected Canadian businessman Elesh Parujanwala as her groom. She later refused to marry him, alleging that he had misrepresented himself on the show.

The policy was approved by the Cabinet on Tuesday.
Bekal, Vythiri, Kumarakom, Alappuzha, Fort Kochi, Kumili, Munnar, Varkala, Kovalam and Ashtamudi had been exempted, Excise Minister K Babu said.  Under the new policy, the UDF Government plans to confine the issuing of bar licences to five-star hotels by 2013-14.
In the first phase of this plan, licences will be confined to four-star hotels and above by the next fiscal. "But hotels in these 10 spots have been exempted as they are tourism spots. We will continue to issue licences here to 20-room three-star hotels and above. The selection is based on a request by the Tourism Department,’’ the Excise Minister said.
The hotel-to-hotel distance limit also will be not  applicable in the case of the 10 places.  The new policy says there should be a minimum distance of 200 m between two four-star hotels for issuing bar licences. The policy has raised the minimum age for buying and selling liquor to 21. Good Fridays will be dry days from now on.  The government has slashed the amount of liquor that could be possessed by an individual at a time from 27.1 litres to 15. Only 3 litres of IMFL can be kept in possession at a given time.  Bars in panchayats and municipalities will be open between 8 am and 11 pm and in corporations between 9 am and midnight.
The policy makes it mandatory that statutory warnings against the consumption of liquor be displayed when boozing scenes are shown in movies.

Summons issued against Meera Jasmine

The elusive actress Meera Jasmine has been issued a summons by the CJM court in Kozhikode in "for not honouring her commitment to do a film after taking an advance amount."
Meera had approached the Kerala High Court saying that she should be granted exemption from making a personal appearance in the court, on the summons issued by CJM.

However, the High Court has rejected her appeal and asked her to be present at the court on or before August 8.
Malayalam producer and director KA Devarajan had filed a case against her that she had taken an advance of Rs 5 lakhs from him to do the filmSwapnamalika, but failed to honour her commitment.

Meera's argument in the case is that after signing the contract, Devarajan had changed the story and started making the film with another heroine.
Meera was recently seen in Tamil films like Penn Singam and Ilanjian, both written by former chief minister M Karunanidhi.

The Malayalam actress is no longer doing films in her mother tongue and has two films to be released in Tamil, Mambattiyan and Adhinarayana.

GSAT-12 placed in geosynchronous orbit

The GSAT-12 communication satellite, launched onboard PSLV-C17, has been successfully placed in geosynchronous orbit with a perigee of 35,684 km, apogee of 35,715 km and an orbital inclination of 0.17 deg with respect to the equatorial plane.

On July 15, Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C17) injected GSAT-12 into an elliptical transfer orbit of 281 km perigee (closest point to Earth) and 21,027 km apogee (farthest point to earth), and orbital inclination of 17.9 deg.

Critical manoeuvres to raise GSAT-12 Satellite into geosynchronous orbit were performed by firing the 440 Newton Liquid Apogee Motor (LAM) of the spacecraft for about 80 minutes in five spells during July 16-20.

The communication antenna onboard the satellite was deployed successfully on Thursday at 15:30 hrs and the spacecraft is in its final orbital configuration, pointing towards earth, according to an ISRO statement.

GSAT-12 is now located at 63 deg East longitude. The satellite would be moved to reach its designated longitude of 83 degree East within the next 16 days (at the rate of one degree per day). The GSAT-12 would be co-located with INSAT-2E and INSAT-4A satellites, the space agency added.
