Thiruvananthapuram: K B Ganesh Kumar, an actor-turned Politician, is one of the young faces in the new United Democratic Front Government which was sworn-in today.
Son of veteran leader R Balakrishna Pillai, Mr Ganesh Kumar is entering the Ministry for the second time; the first time was in 2001 when he became the Transport Minister in the A K Antony Ministry.
Initially focussing on his film career, he jumped into politics when the situation demanded it.
He was quick to rise to the situation when the Kerala Congress (B), the party to which he belongs, wanted his active involvement in politics like his father.
In 2001, Mr Ganesh Kumar was elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly from the Pathanapuram Constituency in Kollam District.
He wrested the seat by a comfortable margin of 9931 votes.
It was also for the first time in Kerala history that an individual from the film industry had been elected to the State Assembly.
