Thiruvananthapuram, Sunday 01 May 2011: The government doctors across the state would strike work on Tuesday demanding the rectification of anomalies in the pay revision. The strike has been called by the Kerala Government Medical Officers Association (KGMOA).
The token strike is as part of strengthening their agitation and the KGMOA has decided to go on an indefinite strike from June 10 if their demands are not met before that. Though the KGMOA leaders had informal talks with the Health Minister last week, the government did not give any assurance to the Association leaders.
On May 3, the doctors will boycott duties in all the hospitals across the state. However, a skeletal staff would be attending the emergency cases. This will be the first total strike by the doctors in the last three years affecting the functioning of the government hospitals across the state for a day.
“The Association has decided to go on a token strike since our demands are pending before the government for years. Though we were given an assurance that the special allowance or the special pay sanctioned to us will be merged with the basic pay in 2008, it has been summarily rejected by the pay commission now,” said Dr Prameela Devi, KGMOA state president.
