My Dear Kuttichathan re-releasing this Onam

Navodaya Appachan's Malayalam film My Dear Kuttichathan is the first Indian 3D movie and it was released in 1984. The film hit the screens again in 1997 and it reached the Blockbuster status in both years. Now, Appachan is said to have planned to re-release it for third time during this Onam festival.

The story of My Dear Kuttichathan revolves around three children, who develop friendly relationship with a ghost named as Kuttichathan. A cruel magician wants Chathan to lay hands on a treasure. Even though magician is a owner of Chathan, he is burnt and killed by Chathan in the climax. Chathan turns into a bat and flies away.

This Malayalam flick has been directed by Jijo Punnoose and produced by Navodaya Appachan. Raghunath Paleri and TK Rajeevkumar have penned the script for the film, which has Ilayaraja's music, Ashok Kumar's cinematography and TR Shekhar's editing. It was first made with a huge budget of 25 crore.

However, My Dear Kuttichathan was dubbed into Hindi as Chhota Chetan with additional scenes with Urmila Matondkar and into Tamil as Chutti Chathan. It was successful in these two languages. Now, the movie is releasing in Malayalam for the third time with additional footage in 3D digital format and Prakash Raj and Santhanam. It should be seen whether the film would impress the present generation.
